Today is Independent Bookstore Day, a day to shop your favorite indie bookstore or discover a new favorite. I drove out to Woodstock this morning and visited the charming Read Between the Lynes bookstore. It’s a great place to browse fantastic titles, shop for unique gifts and sit down with a hot cuppa from the cafe inside.
I’ve never visited an independent bookstore I didn’t like. The owners and staff are always so gracious and knowledgeable – you are part of one big book-loving family. So many books are available here that aren’t in the chain bookstores, so you can spend a very long time looking at titles and finding just the perfect stack of books to bring home.
My hometown used to have the most amazing independent bookstore (back in the day, we never thought of it as “independent” – most simply were). Unfortunately, with the dawn of the chain stores several years ago, we lost our little corner of book heaven. So, if you still have one of these gems in your area, consider yourself very lucky. Here is a great link to a list of independent bookstores nationwide. Remember to celebrate IndependentBookstoreDay today and everyday!
